Divine Testimony : Sanandh Ch. 40 Verse-to-Verse Translation

Sanandh Chapter 40 is not an attack on religion; it is an exposure of religion emptied of spirit. Its relevance is timeless. In an age of religious polarization, Mahamati Prannath reminds us that the true purpose of religion is not to divide humanity, but to awaken it.

Verse-to-Verse Translation:

 

लिख्या है कतेब में, पाया न किन ठौर ।

ना फिरस्तों ना नबियों, तो क्यों पावे कोई और ॥ 1

Likhyaa hai kateb mein, Paayaa na kin thaur |  

Naa phiraston naa nabiyon, To kyon paave koei aur ||

The point is starkly made in the Semitic scriptures that even those regarded as the highest messengers and angels did not claim direct access to the Supreme Abode; therefore, ordinary claimants should be cautious. True realization cannot be reduced to status, scholarship, or inherited identity.

 

लिख्या जो रसूल ने, तिन तो कह्या अगम ।

तबक चौदे ख्वाब के, न्यारा रह्या खसम ॥ 2

Likhyaa jo rasool ne, Tin to kahyaa agam I

Tabak chaude khwaab ke, Nyaaraa rahyaa khasam ||

Prophetic hints about the Highest were acknowledged as beyond ordinary comprehension. The fourteen planes of the cosmos are described as dream-like—real within experience, yet not ultimate—while the Supreme Beloved remains beyond and prior to them all.

 

खुद किन को ना मिल्या, अब काजी कजा चलाए ।

 कहें जो चाहे खुद को, हम मिलावें ताए ॥

Khud to kin ko na milyaa, Ab kaajee kajaa chalaaye.

Kahein jo chaahe khud ko, Ham milaavein taaye.

"Although none among the learned interpreters of the Qur'an attained realization of that Supreme State, the same class has assumed the role of judges (Qazis), issuing what they present as divine verdicts. They further claim authority by declaring that whoever seeks spiritual well-being must come through them, as though they alone could mediate one's meeting with the Supreme."

 

पढे मुल्लां आगूं हुए, सो तो खाए गुमान ।

लोकों को बतावहीं, कहें हम पढे कुरान ॥ 4

Padhe mullaan aagoon huye, So toh khaaye gumaan.

Lokon ko bataavaheen, Kahein ham padhe

"Learned mullahs stepped forward to guide others, yet became ensnared in their own ego. Displaying their learning before the public, they sought recognition as authoritative scholars of the Qur'an."

 

दुनी बदले दीन खोवहीं, चलें सो उलटी रीत

सुपने के सुख कारने, लोभें किए फजीत ॥ 5

Dunee badale deen khovaheen, Chalein so ulatee reet.

Supane ke sukh kaarane, Lobhein kiye phajeet.

"They trade the essence of religion for the greed of worldly recognition and, in doing so, continue along a misguided path. Chasing the fleeting pleasures of this dream-like world, their greed ultimately leads them into deep dishonor."

 

राह बतावें दुनी को, कहें ए नबिए केहेल ।

लिख्या और फुरमानमें, ए खेलें और खेल ॥ 6

Raah bataavein dunee ko, Kahein aye nabiye kehel.

Likhyaa aur phurmaan mein, Aye khelein aur khel.

"Through superficial and self-serving interpretations, they presume to show the people the 'right path,' claiming that their readings reflect the Prophet's true intent. Yet the Qur'an's deeper purpose stands apart from such distortions; thus, they continue to play a deceptive and damaging game."

 

ए जो मोहोरे खेल के, धरें भेख विवाद ।

एक भांन दूजा धरें, कहें हमें होत सवाब

Aye jo mohore khel ke, Dharein bhekh vivaad.7

Ayek bhann doojaa dharein, Kahein hamein hot swaab.

"These so-called leaders adopt various deceptive guises and engage in futile disputes. Competing with one another, they forcibly sever people from their inherited faith and compel them to adopt another way of life. In doing so, they convince themselves that such acts earn them divine merit."

 

ओ राजी एक भेषमें, ताए मार छुडावें

ओ रोवे सिर पीटहीं, ए कहें हमें होत सवाब ॥ 8

O raajee ayek bhesh mein, Taaye maar chudaavein |

O rove sir peetheen, Aye kahein hamein hot swab||

"Those who are content and settled in their own way of life are violently forced to abandon it. The afflicted cry, lament, and strike their heads in anguish, while these so-called religious leaders convince themselves that such cruelty earns them divine merit."

 

एक खाई ग्रहतें काढके, ले डारें दूजी खाड |

जब्हे करें जोरावरी, कहें हमें होत सवाब ॥ 9

Ayek khaaei grahatein kaadhke, Le daarein doojee khaad.

Jabhe karein joraavaree, Kahein hamein hot swaab.

"They wrench people out of one ritual-bound trench—rigid karmakāṇḍa within certain Hindu traditions—only to hurl them into another, even deeper pit of rigid Sharia law. This is done through coercion, intimidation, and at times even bloodshed, yet they astonishingly convince themselves that such acts earn divine merit."

 

हिंदू मुए जलावहीं, और ए आए तिन गाड ।

मिल तिन की जारत करें, कहें हमें होत सवाब || 10

Hindu muye jalaavaheen, Aur aye aaye tin gaad.

Mil tin kee jaarat karein, Kahein hamein hot swaab.

"Hindus cremate their dead, while Muslims bury theirs. Yet afterward, both visit sacred sites—the Ganges or the graves—and astonishingly believe that these outward acts alone earn them divine merit."

 

मार डार पछाडहीं, ओ रोए पीट होवे ताब |

इन विध जातां बदले, कहें हमें होत सवाब ॥ 11

Maar daar pachhaar heen, O roye peet hove taab.

In vidh jaataan badale, Kahein hamein hot swaab.

"They assault Hindus, leaving them wounded in body and spirit, forcing them into grief and anguish. Through such coercion, religious identity is violently altered—yet these acts are still imagined to earn divine merit."

 

जैसे मछ गलागल, ना किनकी मरजाद |

यों खैंच लेवें आपमें, कहें हमें होत सवाब ॥ 12

Jaise galaagal, Naa kinkee marajaad.

Yon khainch levein aap mein, Kahein hamein hot swaab.

Like a giant crocodile that keeps swallowing smaller creatures, they act without restraint or moral boundary. In the same spirit, they drag the helpless into forced conversion—and then, tragically, mistake this violence for "divine merit."

 

करें जुलम गरीब पर, कोई न काहूं फरियाद ।

कर सुनत गोस्त खिलावहीं, कहें हमें होत सवाब 13

Karein julam gareeb par, Koei na kaahoon phariyaad.

Kar sunnat gost khilaavaheen, Kahein hamein hot swaab.

"They inflict cruelty upon the poor and defenseless, so that none dares even to raise a complaint. Through coercive acts—such as forced circumcision and the violation of deeply held dietary taboos—they humiliate and break the vulnerable, yet still imagine that such actions earn divine merit."

 

कोई जालिम जीव जनम का, खुराकी गोस्त सराब

तिनको लेवे दीन में, कहें हमें होत सवाब || 14

Koei jaalim jeev janam kaa, Khuraakee gost saraab.

Tinko leve deen mein, Kahein hamein hot swaab.

"Even those who have lived a life of cruelty, steeped in moral decline and addiction to meat and alcohol, are readily embraced into the fold. And astonishingly, this indiscriminate acceptance is still imagined to earn divine merit."

 

सिरोपाव दे गज चढावहीं, ओ जाने हुआ खराब ।

ए बजाए बाजे कूदहीं, कहें हमें होत सवाब ॥ 15

Siropaav de gaj chadhaave, jane hua kharaab.

Aye bajaaye baaje koodheen, Kahein hamein hot swaab.

"The coerced converts are dressed anew from head to toe and ceremonially seated upon an elephant. While these helpless individuals feel humiliated and inwardly broken, their aggressors celebrate with music and procession—astonishingly believing that such spectacle earns them divine merit."

 

काफर को मुसलिम करें, मिने लेवें दीन हिसाब ।

सिर मूड दाढी रखें, कहें हमें होत सवाब ॥ 16

Kaafar ko muslim karein, Miney levein deen hisaab.

Sir mood daadee rakhein, Kahein hamein hot swaab.

"Those whom they once labeled as infidels are forcibly made 'Muslim' and immediately counted among the faithful. The converts are then required to shave their heads and grow beards, outwardly conforming to a new identity—while their enforcers astonishingly believe that such acts earn them divine merit."

 

खाना खिलावें आप में, देखलावें मसीत मेहेराब ।

लेकर कलमा पढावहीं, कहें हमें होत सवाब || 17

Khaanaa khilaavein aap mein, Dekhlaavein maseet meheraab.

Lekar kalamaa padhaavaheen, Kahein hamein hot swaab.

"The converts are made to eat collectively with the group and are instructed to regularly visit the mosque, reciting the Kalma and performing Namāz before the mihrab. Remarkably, those enforcing these outward acts regard such coerced conformity as a source of divine merit."

 

चित दे एक चुनावहीं, हिंदू जो आद के आद।

सो जोरा करके ढहावहीं, कहें हमें होत सवाब || 18

Chit de ayek chunaavheen, Hindu jo aad ke aad.

So joraa karke dhhavaheen, Kahein hamein hot swaab.

"From time immemorial, Hindus built temples with deep devotion and reverence. Yet these so-called religious leaders incited their followers to demolish them by force—convinced, tragically, that such acts would earn them divine merit."

 

हिंदू मसीतां ढहावहीं, मुसलमान सों बाद ।

दें सोभा इस्ट दीन को, कहे हमें होत सवाब ॥ 19

Hindu maseetaan dhhavaheen, Musalmaan soan baad.

Dein sobhaa isht deen ko, Kahein hamein hot swaab.

"In response to such aggression, even Hindus begin demolishing mosques and installing their own deities—tragically assuming that retaliation, too, earns divine merit."

 

सुध इस्ट ना दीन की, मोह माते उनमाद

ज्यों ज्यों बैर बढावहीं, कहें हमें होत सवाब ॥ 20

Sudh ist naa deen kee, Moh maate unamaad.

Jyon jyon bair badhaavheen, Kahein hamein hot swaab.

"They understand neither the true essence of their deities nor the spirit of their religion. Intoxicated by ignorance, the more they fuel the fire of enmity, the more they mistake such actions for virtue and imagine them to be acts of divine merit."

 

गरक हुए मोह गुमानमें, जनम गमावत बाद ।

या विध आप में, कहें हमें होत सवाब || 21

Garak huye moh gumaan mein, Janam gamaavat

Yaa vidh khainche aap mein, Kahein hamein hot swaab.

"Such people are submerged in ego and ignorance. They squander their lives in quarrels, hostility, and incendiary arguments. Thus, mutual rivalries continue endlessly—yet, tragically, they imagine these actions to be acts of divine merit."

 

यों पढे राह बतावहीं, खेलें मिने ख्वाब

जाहेर जुलम होवहीं, कहें हमें होत सवाब ॥22

Yon pade raah bataavheen, Khelein mine khwaab

Jaaher julam hovaheen, Kahein hamein hot swaab.

"Thus these self-proclaimed scholars continue to mislead the people. With their shallow and distorted understanding, they play recklessly with fire within this cosmic dream. Even as violence multiplies openly before their eyes, they still imagine such actions to be acts of divine merit."

 

पर सवाब तो तिन को होवहीं, छोटा सब जीउ ।

एकै नजरों देखहीं, सब का खावंद पीउ ॥ 23

Par swaab to tin ko hovaheen, Chhota badaa sab jeeu.

Ayekai najaron dekhaheen, Sab ka khaavand peeu.

"True merit belongs only to those who behold all living beings—great and small—with the vision of oneness, recognizing the Supreme Absolute as the Beloved indwelling equally in all."

 

जो दु:ख देवे किनको, सो नाहीं मुसलमान ।

नबिएं मुसलमान का, नाम धरया मेहेरबान | 24

Jo dukh deve kinko, So naaheen musalmaan.

Nabiyen musalmaan kaa, Naam dharyaa meherbaan.

"One who causes suffering to others cannot be called a Muslim, for the Prophet defined a true Muslim as Meherbaan—one who is compassionate and merciful."

 

कोई बूझे ना इसलामको, ना लगे नबी के बान ।

ना सुध सल्ली ना बंदगी, कहें हम मुसलमान ॥ 25

Koei boojhe naa islaam ko, Naa lage nabee ke baan |

Naa sudh sallee naa bandagee, Kahein ham musalmaan ||

"No one grasps the true essence of Islam; the Prophet's teachings fail to pierce their hearts. They remain unaware of the inner meaning of prayer and worship, yet still proclaim themselves to be Muslims."

 

कौन दीन क्यों चलना, और क्यों रेहेनी फुरमान ।

क्यों अंदर मांहें बाहेर, कहें हम मुसलमान ॥ 26

Kaun deen kyon chalnaa, Aur kyon rehenee phuramaan |

Kyon ander maahein baaher, Kahein ham musalmaan ||

**"What is true religion, and how are the teachings of the Qur'an meant to be lived? How should faith be realized inwardly in the soul, embodied through one's conduct, and expressed outwardly in the world? It is striking that many call themselves Muslims without clarity on any of these dimensions.

Note: When one reaches the innermost stillness of the soul—where no wave of thought or imagery arises—the body and the outer world begin to align naturally with that inner truth."**26

ना सुध ऊजू निमाजकी, ना रोजे रमजान ।

ना तसबी ना नाम की, कहें हम मुसलमान ॥ 27

Naa sudh ujoo nimaj kee, Naa roje ramjaan |

Naa tasabee naa naam kee, Kahein ham musalmaan ||

"Unaware of the inner meaning of ritual purification (Wudu), prayer, and fasting; unaware of the deeper purpose of Ramadan; and inattentive to their own inner state while mechanically moving the prayer beads and uttering God's name—they nonetheless continue to call themselves Muslims."27

 

सुध नहीं दिल साफ की, ना कछू सबद पेहेचान ।

ना सुध छल ना वतन, कहें हम मुसलमान ॥ 28

Sudh naheen dil saaf kee, Naa kachhu sabad pehechaan.

Naa sudh chhal naa vatan, Kahein ham musalmaan.

"Despite lacking awareness of inner purity, having no realization of the true intent of scripture, and remaining ignorant of both the deceptive play of the world and the eternal Supreme Abode, they nonetheless boast of being Muslims."

 

मैं कौन आया किन ठौर से, कहा देखत हों जहान ।

कौन नबी भेज्या किने, कहें हम मुसलमान ॥ 29

Main kaun aayaa kin  thaur se, Kahaa dekhat hon jahaan |

Kaun nabee bhejyaa kine, Kahein ham musalmaan ||

"Who am I? From where have I come? What am I witnessing in this world? Who is the Prophet, and who has sent me here? Without clarity on any of these fundamental questions, they still claim to be Muslims."

 

हक को कबूं ना याद करें, हुए नहीं गलतान ।

खुदा कबूं ना सुपने, कहें हम मुसलमान ॥

Hak ko kaboon naa yaad karein, Huye naheen galataan |

Khudaa kaboon naa supane, Kahein hamein musalmaan ||

"They have never remembered the Almighty with longing, nor felt the pain of separation from Him. Not even in their dreams has such remembrance arisen—yet they continue to call themselves Muslims."

 

ए तो आग है जलती, ताए लई सुख मान ।

देखाए भी अंधे न देखहीं, कहें हम मुसलमान ॥ 31

Aye to aag hai jalatee, Taaye lei sukh maan |

Dekhaaye bhee andhe naa dekhaheen, Kahein ham musalmaan ||

"The world is like a fiercely burning fire, yet they mistake material cravings for true happiness. Even when the truth is shown to them, their inner eyes remain blind, and still they continue to call themselves Muslims."31

 

बाहेर के देखावहीं, अंदर आंख न कान ।

सो कहा सुने कहा देखसी, कहें हम मुसलमान ॥ 32

Baaher ke dekhaavheen, Ander aankh na kaan |

So kahaa sune kahaa dekhasee, Kahein ham musalmaan ||

"They put on a display of outward devotion, yet possess neither inner eyes nor inner ears. How, then, can they hear the voice of the Almighty or perceive His signs in the world? And still, they call themselves Muslims."

 

विध भी देखावें बाहेर की, सुध नहीं वृध हान ।

ना पेहेचान जो रूह की, कहें हम मुसलमान ॥

Vidh bhee dekhaavein baaher kee, Sudh naheen vradh haan |

Naa pehechaan jo rooh kee, Kahein ham musalmaan ||

"They are fixated on the outward forms of worship, having lost all discernment of what truly benefits and what harms. They have not realized the space of the soul—yet they continue to call themselves Muslims."

 

गुन ना देखें काहूं को, अवगुन लेवें सिर तान ।

आप पडे बस इन्द्रियों, कहें हम मुसलमान ॥ 34

Gun na dekhein kaahoon ko, Avagun levein sir taan |

Aap pade bas indriyon, Kahein ham musalmaan ||

"They fail to recognize the virtues in others, yet eagerly magnify and carry the weight of others' faults with an unforgiving mind. Meanwhile, they themselves remain enslaved to their own senses—still proclaiming themselves Muslims."34

 

जुलम करें कै जालिम, मूंदी आंखे गुमान ।

खून करते ना डरें, कहें हम मुसलमान॥35

Julam karein kai jaalim, Moondee aankhein gumaan |

Khoon karate naa darein, Kahein ham musalmaan || 35

"These people commit countless acts of cruelty. Blinded by false ego, their inner vision is sealed shut, and they feel no fear even in taking a life—yet they continue to call themselves Muslims."

 

नीयत ना नीकी कबहूं, जनम दगाई जान ।

निस दिन चाहें छल को, कहें हम मुसलमान ॥ 36

Neeyat naa neekee kabahoon, Janam dagaaei jaan |

Nis din chaahein chhal ko, Kahein ham musalmaan ||

"Their intention has never been pure, as though deceit itself were ingrained in them. Day and night, they hunger for deception—yet they continue to call themselves Muslims."36

 

मने उडाए तूल ज्यों, न पावें ठौर ठेहेरान ।

सो सारे गफलतें फिरे, कहें हम मुसलमान ॥ 37

Mane udaaye tool jyon, Naa paavein aur theheraan |

So saare gaphalatein phire, Kahein ham musalmaan ||

"Their restless minds toss them about like drifting crown-flower cotton, never allowing them to settle in peace. They wander endlessly in ignorance—yet they continue to call themselves Muslims."37

 

ले गरव खडे होवहीं, जाने हम मेर समान |

ना सुध भारी हलके, कहें हम मुसलमान ॥ 38

Le garav khade hovaheen, Jaane ham mer samaan |

Naa sudh bhaaree halake, Kahein ham musalmaan ||

"They rise in arrogance, standing like mountains in their own estimation, yet lack the discernment to distinguish what truly matters from what does not. Still, they call themselves Muslims."39

 

कहे अंग तो काम क्रोध के, गोस्त खान मद पान |

हक हराम न जानहीं, कहें हम मुसलमान ॥ 39

Kahe ang to kaam krodh ke, Gost khaan mad paan |

Hak haraam naa jaanheein, Kahein ham musalmaan ||

"They are consumed by anger and passion, unable to restrain themselves from meat and intoxication. They no longer discern what is lawful and what is forbidden—yet they continue to call themselves Muslims."39

 

सुपेत हुए स्याही गई, स्याही अंदर बढती जान ।

काट गला लोहू पीवहीं, कहें हम मुसलमान ॥ 40

Supet huye syaahee gei, Syaahee ander badatee jaan.

Kaat galaa lohu peevheen, Kahein ham musalmaan.

"Though their hair has turned white with age, the darkness within their consciousness only deepens as ignorance grows. In that blindness, they slit the throats of the innocent—stripping them of life and rights, even drinking their blood—yet they still call themselves Muslims."40

 

दु:ख ना देखें और को, ऐसे हिरदे निपट पाषान ।

दु:ख देत ना सकुचें, कहें हम मुसलमान || 41

Dukh naa dekhein aur ko, Ayese hirade nipat pashaan |

Dukh det naa sakuchein, Kahein ham musalmaan ||

They remain unmoved by the suffering of others, their hearts hardened like stone. They inflict pain without hesitation, yet still call themselves Muslims.41

 

ब्राह्मण कहे हम उतम, मुसलमान कहे हम पाक।

दोऊ मुठी एक ठौर की, एक राख दूजी खाक ॥ 42

Brahman kahe ham uttam, Musalmaan kahe ham paak |

Dou muthee ayek thaur kee, Ayek raakh doojee khaak ||

Brahmins claim superiority, and Muslims claim purity, yet the consciousness and bodily substance of both arise from the same single Source. It is as though the One God has sent them forth from His two fists. In the end, one body returns to ashes and the other to earth. 42

 

कुफर न काढें आपको, और देखें सब कुफरान ।

अपना अवगुन ना देखहीं, कहें हम मुसलमान ॥ 43

Kuphar naa kaadhein aapko, Aur dekhein sab kupharaan |

Apanaa avagun naa dekhaheen, Kahein ham musalmaan ||

"They do not cleanse themselves of disbelief or inner malice, yet they label others as impious or infidels. Blind to their own faults, they still claim the name of Muslims."43

 

ज्यों सुपनेमें मनुआ, आप भाव सब ठौर ।

तरंग जैसा आपमें, सोई देखे मिने और ॥ 44

Jyon supane mein manuaa, Aap bhaav sab thaur |

Tarang jaisaa aap mein, Soei dekhe mine aur ||

"Just as the dreaming mind moves through many scenes and perceives itself everywhere within the dream, so too, in the waking state, whatever qualities of thought and emotion flow within one's own mind are the very qualities one perceives reflected in others." 44

 

बदी न छोडें एक पल, डर न रखें सुभान ।

फैल करें चित चाहते, कहें हम मुसलमान ॥45

Badee naa chhodein ayek pal, Dar na rakhein subhaan |

Phail karein chit chaahte, Kahein ham musalmaan ||

"They are unable to abandon their wrongdoing even for a moment and hold no reverence or fear of the Almighty. Acting only according to their own whims, they nevertheless continue to call themselves Muslims." 45

 

ना प्रतीत जो और की, यों पढे काजी कुरान ।

राह बतावें और को, कहें हम मुसलमान ॥ 46

Naa prateet jo aur kee, Yon padhe kaajee Koran|

Raah bataavein aur ko, Kahein ham musalmaan||

"Lacking trust in others, they read the Qur'an with this hardened attitude, assume the role of judges, and presume to show the 'right path' to others—yet they still call themselves Muslims."46

 

हिरदे फूटे ऐसे बेसुध, एता भी न रहे याद ।

खुद काजी आखर होएसी, तब देसी कहा जवाब ॥ 47

Hirade phoote ayese besudh, Ayetaa bhee na rahe yaad |

Khud kaajee aakhar hoyesee, Tab desee kahaa jawaab ||

"With hearts fractured by heedlessness, they forget even the fundamental truth—that the Almighty Himself will appear as the final Judge. What answer will they have to offer then?"47

 

कलाम अल्ला काजी पढ़ें, पर होत नहीं यकीन ।

कैसा डर कौन आवहीं, तो हलका किया दीन ॥ 48

Kalaam Allah kaajee padhein, Par hot naheen yakeen |

Kaisaa dar kaun aavaheen, To halakaa kiyaa deen ||

"Though they claim to have studied the Qur'an, its truth has not taken root in their hearts. Casting aside fear of divine judgment, they ask, 'Who will come to hold us accountable?'—and thus they reduce their own religion to something hollow."48

 

तिनों तो सस्ता किया, जिनों नहीं भरोसा निदान ।

या विध आपे अपना, हलका करें कुरान ॥ 49

Tinon to sastaa kiyaa, Jinon naheen bharosaa nidaan |

Yaa vidh aape apanaa, Halakaa karein koran ||

They have made their religion inferior because for sure, they do not really believe in it.

This way, they themselves have lowered the prestige of Koran. 49

 

महामत केहेवें यों कर, ए पढे बडे कुफर ।

बातून नजर इन को नहीं, तो कजा की न हुई खबर ॥ 50

Mahaamat kehevein yon kar, Aye padhe bade kufar |

Baatoon najar in ko naheen, To kajaa kee na huei khabar ||

"Mahamati, endowed with awakened understanding, observes that these educated yet self-appointed judges lack genuine faith. Without inner sight or profound reflection, they fail to recognize the truth of the Day of Judgment."50
